Working at UCare

Working at UCare is more than a career; it's a mission. A mission that defines us as professionals, unites us as an organization and shapes how we interact with our members and each other. Employees join UCare and stay because of the opportunity to have a purpose-driven job.

Our strong culture has established UCare as a Star Tribune Top 200 Workplace for 14 consecutive years since the awards program began. It’s a culture that embraces innovative ideas, strategic partnerships, and exemplary customer and provider experiences. Working at UCare is being a part of a people powered team dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of our members and communities.

The UCare Difference

The UCare difference is our people power — employees actively working on behalf of our members to get them access to the health care they need. We value and respect each individual's ideas and contributions, and provide the freedom to grow both personally and professionally. We are centrally located, and offer onsite education, equipment and wellness resources, and a myriad of volunteer activities. If you're looking for an inclusive environment that celebrates your people power, helps you build on your strengths and gives you the opportunity to truly make a difference, we invite you to apply.

UCare provides a welcoming and stimulating environment for employees — earning us a Star Tribune Top 200 Workplace ranking from the Star Tribune for 14 consecutive years since the rankings began in 2010. In 2023, employee responses to the survey put us in 10th place in the ranking's large employer category. UCare is one of only a small number of companies to be named a top workplace 14 years in a row.

Our work culture values collaboration, which is evident in the cross-departmental employee teams formed for significant organizational projects. UCare employees’ views and opinions are highly valued, too. They’re measured every two years in our UCount! employee survey, and results are acted upon.

Northeast Minneapolis is UCare’s longtime work home. Our campus comprises two renovated warehouse-style buildings located just minutes from major freeways. Free parking, bus line access, naturally lit workspaces, lunchtime food vendors, and onsite fitness facilities are available to everyone. The nearby Quarry Center and local restaurants and retailers offer shopping convenience and variety, too.

UCare’s steady growth in members and revenue has created a demand for employees with all levels of work and education experience. Career opportunities exist in multiple departments and in a variety of clinical services, operations, information services, and customer services positions.

UCare University, our online learning management system, offers a wealth of professional development events, classes, and training curriculum for career development. In-house Lunch ’n Learn events and guest speaker presentations increase employee awareness and knowledge of current issues. Tuition reimbursement also is available. Several internal recognition programs highlight employee accomplishments.

UCare’s executive leadership team embodies the qualities and values UCare seeks in our employees. Get to know them.

Because UCare serves more people from diverse cultures and more people with disabilities enrolled in Medical Assistance than any other health plan in Minnesota, we welcome and employ people who reflect our membership.

UCare believes it is critical for employees to understand the cultures of our enrollees — as well as the health and socioeconomic challenges many of them face. Our Health Equity Committee brings UCare’s commitment to its multicultural membership right into the workplace. Committee members ensure that cultural competency and diversity initiatives for members and health care providers meet enrollee needs and quality goals.

Employees benefit, too, from the committee’s work. Staff attend frequent speaker events, participate in a diversity book club, and attend film screenings and on-site theater performances that advance staff knowledge about multicultural members, health issues, and the health care system.

Our Employee Advisory Group functions as a channel for employee input into topics affecting their jobs and the workplace. Group members prompt two-way communication on many levels to improve employee engagement. They also contribute to UCare’s biannual employee survey, diversity offerings, and employee learning and development opportunities.

We “walk our talk” — and carry our mission — into local communities with a variety of volunteer opportunities and community giving campaigns. Examples include a Fall Rake-Up for homebound seniors, volunteer opportunities with young students at Pratt Community School, onsite Red Cross bloodmobile visits, Meals on Wheels deliveries, and joining scores of colleagues walking as members of Team UCare at the National Alliance on Mental Illness NAMIWalks fundraiser.

UCare offers a competitive and well-rounded benefits package for employees and their dependents.

In 2015, UCare began offering a paid leave benefit for new birthing, non-birthing, and adopting parents. New parents receive paid time off to enjoy this special life event.

RENEW is UCare’s comprehensive, onsite employee wellness program. The award-winning service has been a yearly and high-level award recipient of the American Heart Association’s START! Fit Friendly Companies Award since 2007 — and received the START! Fit Friendly Companies Worksite Innovation Award in 2012. RENEW also has been an annual Gold or Platinum Award recipient of Hennepin County’s Wellness by Design Worksite Award since 2007.

RENEW’s in-house fitness centers in two locations offer exercise equipment, instruction, and shower facilities. Employees can take advantage of an array of fitness and relaxation classes, personal trainers, discounted fitwear items, financial incentives, and more. Employees can arrange for onsite delivery of fresh fruit from a national vendor and produce from a Minnesota organic farm, and shop a summertime Farmers Market.

As an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, we welcome and employ a diverse employee group committed to meeting the needs of UCare, our members, and the communities we serve.

UCare does not accept unsolicited resumes from staffing agencies. We reserve the right to pursue and hire any unsolicited candidates without any financial obligation to the recruiter or agency, unless they have been explicitly engaged by UCare.
