Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Services

The support you need

Pain can be emotional as well as physical. When our hearts and minds feel unwell, our bodies can also feel unwell. Our minds and our bodies are connected. Your mental health plays a huge role in your overall well-being. Sometimes, a mental health or substance use disorder diagnosis can lead to a medical diagnosis or vice versa. It’s important that you get the care that you need for both your physical and mental health.

Call our Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Services team if you are:

  • Having trouble with sleep
  • Excessively worrying
  • Going through a major life change
  • Experiencing social isolation or anxiety
  • Taking more medication than is prescribed
  • Feeling lonely, sad or down
  • Thinking of hurting yourself
  • Having trouble concentrating
  • Smoking to deal with stress
  • Feeling very tired or low energy
  • Experiencing major changes in eating habits
  • Having panic attacks
  • Thinking about cutting back on drinking
  • Having suicidal thoughts
  • Wishing you were no longer here
  • Having trouble understanding and relating to situations and to people
  • Frequently feeling angry
  • Using drugs or alcohol

We can help you manage a mental health or substance use concerns at no additional cost through two phone lines:

  • Triage Line – for general help with mental health and substance use disorders, connection to community support and in times of crisis. This number is on the back of your UCare member ID card.
  • Access Line – for help specific to accessing care like determining appointment needs and scheduling appointments.

The Access and Triage Lines are available 8 am – 8 pm, Monday – Friday. An after-hours line is available outside of business hours and on weekends. You don’t need to have a specific diagnosis to use our services. When you call, one of our UCare staff will talk with you about your needs and help you find the right services to support you.

Mental health and substance use conditions are manageable, but the path to recovery from these conditions can be confusing and hard. You’re not alone. We’re here to offer support, resources, access to care and case management. We can help you better understand the range of options available for services and care and help get you there.

Types of care

There are different types of services to help you get the care you need. These might include counseling, prescription medicine or a combination of both. Some other examples might include group therapy, education programs, or a hospital or residential treatment program. Selecting the combination of treatment and support that works best for you is an important part of the process toward wellness. This looks different for everyone — even people with the same condition might find they have different needs and goals. We can help you find care that is right for you.
